Research Status and Trends of New Energy Vehicle Electric Drive System Configuration

- The electric drive system (EDS) is a crucial component of pure electric vehicles (PEVs). It directly affects the vehicle's dynamics, economy, reliability, and comfort, depending on whether the configuration is reasonable or not. This paper extensively researched EDS product information from both domestic and international sources within the new energy automobile industry. Based on its degree of integration, this paper introduced the typical configurations of centralized and distributed EDS for new energy passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. The structural characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of different configurations were analyzed. Finally, this paper summarizes the current development status of EDS configurations. It predicted the future trends of multi-in-1 and highly integrated EDS, multi-gear, and the wider application of in-wheel motor technology, as well as the opportunities and challenges they face.
